My favorite type of reading is Fantasy. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are excellent at bringing the realm of new and exciting worlds to life. I started out by reading the series The Death Gate Cycle which contained the below 7 books. I found them very easy to read and constantly kept you involved with the plot of the story. Come enjoy the adventure with me.

Basically, the storyline deals with two very powerful races, the Sartan and their enemies the Patryn, and the mensch [ so termed by the Sartans/Patryns] races of elves, dwarves, and of course, humans. The Patryns were growing in strength, so to save the mensch, the Sartans sundered the world into 4 worlds; 1 of fire; 1 of water; 1 of land; and 1 of air, and trapped the Patryns in a prison called the Labyrinth. The Sartan designed the Labyrinth to teach their foes humility, but the Labyrinth took on a sentience of its own; thus the Labyrinth became a battle of life and death for the people trapped there and only served to increase the hate felt by the Patryns toward the race responsible for their captivity, the Sartans. Haplo, has escaped the Labyrinth and has been sent to scout the 4 realms for a Sartan presence. Alfred, has awoken on Arianus, the realm of Air to find himself the last surviving Sartan. Naturally, the two meet, and eventually find an ancient evil that they must overcome together.
